An automated Business Process Modeling (BPM) tool
Problem Statement
Organizations benefit from the visualization of current services or offerings by gaining better internal alignment and understanding existing pain points in their user's experience. Traditional tools like Figma, Miro and Mural are the industry standard but lack a rich feature set tailored to business process modeling. Because of this, they become expensive to maintain as an organization evolves and are quickly left out of date.
Objectives & Goals
-
Use automation to eliminate tasks
-
Ease the burden of maintainability
-
Create a collaborative space
Output
Driven from my own vast experience with infinite canvas tools (Heyo FigJam!) and multiple projects creating service blueprints for clients, the pain in building these artifacts was well understood.
Our engineering team created a custom pathfinding algorithm that automated the positioning and connections of the UI elements. This created a very unique UX challenge in that several steps in traditional workflows no longer exist and required new ways to interact with common objects.
Also the need to support a variety of different user types meant that varying levels of information was required for each.
The tool relies heavily on Progressive Disclosure to limit cognitive load as well as utilize common behaviors like reveal on hover to grant access to needed information and features without immediately overloading a user.
